As major contributors to the very exciting nouvelle vague of UK folk music, seven-piece Mishaped Pearls have received outstanding reviews in The Telegraph, The Financial Times, Songlines Magazine, fRoots Magazine, The Guardian, The Scotsman, Maverick Magazine and plenty more for their landmark albums Thamesis and Shivelight, which also garnered the highest praise from Tom Robinson (BBC6 Music), Mark Radcliffe and Bob Harris (BBC Radio 2).
They have regularly toured in both the UK and France, building a reputation for their exhilarating live sound, their adventurous song combination of the ancient and the new finding an echo in their musical make up: banjo, saz baglama, bodhran, violin and mandolin mix with acoustic guitar, keyboards, electric bass and percussion, all led by the distinctive mezzo-soprano voice of Manuela Schuette. Their music’s roots in tradition expand into progressive folk and rock, eastern modal and contemporary classical music, blending the ancient with the modern. New shows and material are planned for 2026, marking a very exciting fresh chapter for the band.
